In the heart of the enchanting rolling fields, resided a young shepherd. His life was mostly pure, and unsophisticated. His main role was essentially to care for his herd of ewes.

Their low murmuring and the rustling of the wind through the single tree on the hilltop were his only co-dwellers. Day in day, watching over his charges imbued in him a sense of calm satisfaction.

But, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for company. On one such day from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

Stories of wolves preying on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One morning he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw no wolf.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. But, one noon, a real wolf actually attack the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met read more with a lesson on honesty and the repercussions of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is tough to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
